Roland is a 1988 graduate from the Academy for Physiotherapy in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. Born in Curacao Netherlands Antilles, he moved with his wife and son to Michigan in 1991 hoping to gain more knowledge, skills and experience treating disorders of the spine. His 24 years of clinical experience extends in areas of spinal disorders, general orthopedics, sports medicine, geriatric care, pediatrics, aquatics, TMJ and women’s health.
He is proficient in various manual therapy techniques including Stanley Paris, Maitland, McKenzie, Williams flexion exercises, Muscle Energy and Myofascial release.
In Detroit, he pioneered the start of the Mercy Occupational Medicine clinic for treating industrial workers and performed pre-employment screening for Pepsi and Schwann’s employees.
A former college ball player, tri-athlete and 2011 Detroit Marathon finisher, he understands the mechanics of sports and uses his training from the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI) to rehabilitate injured athletes.
Prior to partnering with Renue Physical Therapy, he managed the rehab department at Mercy hospital in Detroit and Select Specialty hospital in Saginaw. Roland is also fluent in 6 different languages including Spanish and French.
